Recently Microsoft made available an emergency update for Windows 10, Windows 8.1, and Windows 7 devices to mitigate the Meltdown and Spectre security vulnerabilities found in many modern processors. However, a significant number of users immediately started experiencing a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) on devices with specific AMD processors. According to the company the unexpected problem is due to “some AMD chipsets do not conform to the documentation previously provided” to create the update, and as result it’s pausing the rollout temporarily. Now, Microsoft is working with AMD more closely to repair and resume the update as soon as possible. In the meantime, the company is adding a note in its support websites to alert users of the problem with the following updates:
